The EPIcenter will feature a collaborative co-working and creative space that will serve as an incubator for new energy start-ups. Technology incubators, while still new in concept, are becoming increasingly common. The exception is the new energy economy. Modeled in part after another successful tech incubator, EPIcenter will provide a home for emerging businesses and nonprofits focused on advancement of clean and renewable energy science and technology.
Great ideas are the aspiration of EPIcenter’s think tank. The goal is to drive the conversation toward best practices for the emerging industry and scalable, economically feasible clean energy production and distribution.
The Fabrication Laboratory, or "Fab Lab" will serve as a workshop, where academia, energy companies, and the community can convene to discuss challenges and explore solutions. We foresee universities and colleague companies beta testing or showcasing new energy-saving tools and emerging technologies here; industry leaders will stage workshops, seminars and lectures.
An exhibit space will be created with interactive and structural artifacts that will convey the amazing history, future and innovation of the energy industry--an old turbine juxtaposed with a dual axis solar panel, for example. It will tell the story of "How Electricity Happens" as well as the unique evolution of San Antonio’s community owned electric and gas utility, CPS Energy.
EPIcenter will host industry and like-minded stakeholders in its 400-seat auditorium and conference concourse. The bottom level will serve as a haven for everything from trade shows to galas and will be equipped with the latest in meeting technology.
The building’s home on the San Antonio River make it a prime location. Terraces, gardens, a restaurant, learning zones and performance spaces will provide both a local and regional attraction.
